Millcreek Children's Center is a preschool for children ages three to five serving the Youngstown, Ohio area since 1976. Sister Jerome Corcoran, the Executive Director, has her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Research and Education. She has been the Director and founder of the Center since its beginning, 33 years!
Millcreek Children's Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves lower income working families so that their children can succeed in kindergarten. Statistics show that children enrolled in a high quality early learning program, particularily lower income children, are more likely to stay in school, attend college, earn more money and be employed in high-skilled jobs.
We recently received a State Award for Excellence in Early Child Care and Education! In recognition of its excellent child care program and its committment to children, Millcreek Children's Center has received a One-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. We are only the fourth preschool in Mahoning County to receive this award! Step Up To Quality is a voluntary rating system for early care and education programs where the school can receive ratings by meeting an extensive list of quality benchmarks. Millcreek Children's Center operates Monday through Friday, year-round, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to assist working parents. We serve hot nutritious meals, and morning and afternoon snacks. We have a safe, clean, and enriched learning environment. |
The classes at Millcreek Children's Center are small with degreed, licensed teachers who know how to unlock the
potential in children. We provide a wide range of programs for our disadvantaged children: speech therapy, developmental tutoring, computer instruction, vision, hearing, and foot screenings, dental care, and referrals for needed services.
Our parents are an integral part of our program. We keep them informed through bulletins, discussions, and meetings. We welcome their insights concerning their child's development. We have individual computer classes in order to help parents with family relationships as well as job skills. We welcome custodial and non-custodial parents into these classes.
Parents, children, staff... working hand-in-hand in a carefully planned structure to achieve the child's best interests.
