Building Futures . . .One Child at a Time.

There's nothing like divine inspiration to get a project started. In the case of Sister Jerome Corcoran, her "project" was the establishment of Millcreek Children's Center, a non-denominational preschool located in the heart of Youngstown, Ohio.
Thirty three years ago, Sister recognized a need for a preschool that would provide the nuturing, discipline, and love that young souls need to prepare them for all their school years.* Over 2,600 students later, Sister’s kids have gone on for degrees and technical licenses, joined our nation’s armed services and become productive, responsible citizens.

To honor her and help ensure that her dream will live on, we have established the Sister Jerome Fund. Because while divine inspiration is a good starting point, it doesn’t always pay the bills.

Thirty Years of Small Miracle

Thirty Three. . . wonderful . . . years. That's the number of years Sister Jerome has been devoted to operating a preschool in Youngstown, Ohio. With a little luck, a lot of faith and tremendous support from our community, over twenty-six hundred at-risk children have been given a loving, nuturing introduction to their educational careers.

The Results? A Stronger, Better Educated Community

With the close collaboration of her talented staff, Sister Jerome has built the Millcreek Children's Center (MCC) into a preschool that is recognized for its success in readying bright young souls for the rigors of an elementary education.* It is Sister's strong, well documented belief (she holds a Ph.D.in Education & Research) that for a child to succeed in school, they must be a part of a caring, structured environment that will encourage their curious, young minds to seek appropriate answers to their questions and conduct themselves as proud, productive citizens.

*MCC students are currently testing at HIGH on the state-mandated KRA-L Test as they begin kindergarten.

A Warm Heart, A Devoted Staff and Loyal Volunteers Are Not Enough.

Like most worthwhile things in life it takes money to operate our school. In fact it costs close to $7,000 per child per year. While lower income, working parents must pay part of these costs, their limited opportunities require that we raise the balance. The goal of the Sister Jerome Fund is to establish a permanent source of revenue, which will ensure the continued operation of the Millcreek Children's Center far into the future.
